At CARISSMA’s outdoor test site, located in the north-east of Ingolstadt, tests are carried out using vehicles and dummies representing road users. Such tests are required both for the design of methods, algorithms and components, and for their validation. Testing under real-world conditions is intended to ensure that the systems under investigation are suitable for use in vehicle safety applications.
The outdoor test track takes account of current and future developments in the field of integrated vehicle safety by, for example, conducting tests at speeds of up to 80 km/h and lateral dynamics tests under real-world environmental conditions.
New driver assistance systems and, in the future, automated vehicles will lead to changed behavior in road traffic. This also requires the development of new test methods. The outdoor test facility is intended to make an important contribution by enabling the reproducible execution of critical and thus relevant traffic scenarios.
In the development of safety systems for accident prevention through automated interventions in vehicle control, data-based methods play an increasingly important role. In addition to simulation data, a large amount of real-world data from critical traffic situations is required. Such data is generated at the outdoor test facility.
