Safe mobility is a fundamental human need. THI addresses this need with the Center of Automotive Research on Integrated Safety Systems and Measurement Area (CARISSMA). Since 2016, the CARISSMA Research and Test Center has been designed as a leading scientific center for vehicle safety in Germany. The facility’s goal is to contribute to increasing road safety both domestically and internationally through applied research.

Through their interdisciplinary research projects, the scientists address the societal challenge of “Vision Zero” – the long-term goal of zero road fatalities. Currently, approximately 19,800 people die on European roads alone each year.

• The CARISSMA Institute of Safety in Future Mobility (C-ISAFE) focuses on proactive accident detection and reduction of accident consequences.

• The CARISSMA Institute of Automated Driving (C-IAD) focuses on the development, testing, and validation of automated driving functions. In the context of road safety, the emphasis is on accident prevention.

• The CARISSMA Institute of Electric, Connected and Secure Mobility (C-ECOS) has a broad thematic scope, focusing on safe electromobility and accident analysis, Car2X communication in conjunction with intelligent transport systems and cyber-physical systems, as well as Automotive IT Security.
