The research and development project IN2Lab is a key project of the digital test field for automated and connected driving in Ingolstadt. The goal is to validate automated driving functions through an intelligent infrastructure that connects vehicles, infrastructure, and a central control system.
For this purpose, the roadside infrastructure was equipped with sensor masts, Car2X communication, and IT technology. The sensors capture traffic conditions and enable structured information exchange between vehicles, infrastructure, and the control system. Car2X technology enables vehicles to communicate with their environment in real time, allowing them to respond early to hazards or changes in traffic conditions.
A central element is the Mission Control, a control center for monitoring and managing the test field. This infrastructure forms the foundation for an open innovation laboratory where researchers, startups, and companies can explore and test new mobility solutions.
The insights gained contribute to making automated driving safer and more efficient and form an important basis for future mobility concepts.
